Activating Java 1.6 on Mac OS X
Mac OS X 10.5 uses Java 1.5 by default. The Java 6 implementation of Apple is currently only available for Intel-Macs with 64-bit-processor (!Core2Duo and newer). 32-Bit-CoreDuo and !PPC-Macs are not supported by Apple.
A port of the BSD-implementation of Java 6 is available for Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.4 on Intel macs (incl 32-Bit-Versions) Download here
You may activate Java 1.6 by opening the Java Preferences:
- Open -> Applications -> Utilities -> Java -> Java Preferences.app

- Drag 'Java SE 6' to the top in both lists (see screen shot)
